Area Educator of Horticulture - Southwest MO

Position Summary

The Area Educator of Horticulture will locate and serve at least 30 growers of Horticulture Crops in their county of residence and two adjacent counties, contribute to the development and publication of a monthly newsletter, and develop a database for producers in their service area. The Area Educator of Horticulture will conduct farm visits to determine areas of concern for farmers, offer technical support, coordinate educational events, collect data and develop reports on the extension activities in the area.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Identify and serve 30+ growers in Southwest or West-Central MO.
• Determine needs and concerns of growers and develop a database for MO producers.
• Conduct farm visits, phone calls, and emails for technical support.
• Coordinate area educational events.
• Contribute to monthly newsletter.
• Develop reports on the extension activities in the region.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Technical experience in Horticulture or related field.
• Demonstrated ability of conducting quality extension activities.
• Background in crop production, food safety, and technology is desirable.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Willingness and ability to work in team-oriented environment with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students.
• A valid driver's license is required.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Horticulture or a related field is required.
• Technical experience in Horticulture is required.
