Area Educator II - Small Ruminant

Position Description

The Area Educator II will assist the Small Ruminant State Specialists and Extension Administrators. It will focus on Animal Science- Small Ruminants and will provide compelling and impactful research-based educational programming that meets the assessed needs of low-income, limited resource small farmers and producers who are underserved and unserved.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, implement, teach and evaluate innovative programming in the area of animal science - small ruminants that demonstrates measurable impact.
  • Solicit and secure extramural funding, including gifts, donations, grants.
  • Engage and collaborate with communities, private entities, commercial organizations, and local, county, state, and federal governments.
  • Offer group and one-on-one educational experiences to small farmers and producers utilizing research-based information.
  • Design and produce engaging fact sheets.
  • Manage program budget.
  • May supervise volunteers, students, and program participants.
  • May require working weekends and evenings.
  • May require travel around the region, and occasional travel outside of the state of Missouri.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency, to include MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and on a larger team.
  • Ability to read, speak, and understand Spanish is preferred.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, or a closely related field is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with small farmers and ranchers is required.
  • Demonstrated success at securing extramural resources through donations, gifts, and gift funds is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success at conducting educational sessions via distance learning and on virtual platforms is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success at teaching and developing audience contacts with social media is preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with ethnically diverse audiences is preferred.
