Aquaculture Manager

Position Summary

This position is to manage the aquaculture research facility and supervise daily operations for aquaculture production in College of Agriculture, Environmental, and Human Sciences.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Daily supervision of the aquaculture research facility
  • Assist with research aquaculture research which improves fish health, system management, and productivity.
  • Establish protocols and policies which allow faculty and staff to effectively carry out research and demonstrations in a collaborative manner to meet the needs and goals of the overall program.
  • Write protocols for building usage, maintenance, and management.

Organize workshops and field day outreach activities to address the critical or emergent issues in aquaculture industry. Conduct tours and field day events

  • Work with researchers and their teams to ensure they have what they need to perform research.
  • Establish facility and equipment maintenance guidelines to be followed by all faculty and staff utilizing the aquaculture facilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Interpersonal skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a team-oriented environment with a diverse group required.
  • Ability to work with and report to the farm superintendent.

Education and Experience

  • BS degree or higher in aquaculture, biology, animal science or closely related field is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage aquaculture production system is desired.
  • Experience of aquaculture research and production or management is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to work in wide range of weather conditions and elements.
  • Ability to use farm equipment.
  • Ability to swim and be in the water.
