Adult Education Instructor

Position Summary

The Adult Education Instructor will be responsible for providing instruction through at least the 12th grade level Reading, Math, and Language to prepare students to pass the High School Equivalency Test (HISET) at the Mid-MO Adult Learning Center in Jefferson City, MO.

This position will work 14 hours a week Monday-Friday 6:00 - 9:30 p.m. for twelve months.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
• Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistence with lesson objectives.
• Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
• Diagnose and evaluate student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.

• Work with adults of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
• Adapt instruction based on individual student needs.
• Create and manage a safe, friendly, and encouraging classroom environment.
• Communicate information on an individual and group level.
• Practice patience, empathy, and listening skills.
• Encourage adults to embrace computers and technology.
• Break down complex topics and present them in a straightforward, understandable way.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree is required.
• Certification from the State of Missouri to teach Adult Education to prepare students to pass the HISET within 4 months of hire is required.
• Must be able to pass a background check.
• Teaching experience is preferred.
