Position Summary:

Full-time, tenure-track, nine-month/year appointment beginning August 2023. The preferred
candidate will be qualified to teach special education courses and K-12 education courses at the
undergraduate and graduate level.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
(What duties are required for the position to exist? Estimate the percentage of time spent in
each. ) Preparing and teaching a 12-hour load per semester of assigned undergraduate and graduate
special and K-12 education courses. Advise undergraduate students with class schedules,
preparation for certification exams. Maintain records of grades and attendance. Hold 10 hours
of office hours per week (80%).
Active scholarship, research, publications, and/or grant applications in the field of Education
(1o%)
Serve on departmental, college, and university committees. Attend university events and
ceremonies such as commencement (10%)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
(Indicate which are required, preferred, or desirable. include licenses and certifications.)

Required: The preferred candidate will have Missouri certification, or the ability to obtain
Missouri certification, in Mild/Moderate/Cross Categorical K-12 education. Experience with
diverse communities, students, faculty and staff. Knowledge of Missouri teaching standards and
use of best practices. The ability to advise and mentor students through their degree program. Preferred: Three years of fu ll-time teaching at the K- 12 level. Experience and knowledge with education accreditation at the state and national level. Ability to teach in-person and online
classes. Ability to create and maintain relationships with community partners and stakeholders.

Education and Experience

Required: A Doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in a field of Education/Special Education, or the
completion of a doctorate within one year (ABD). Experience with teaching Special Education in
the Missouri K-12 school systems.
Preferred: Experience with teachings in Higher Education. Experience with Canvas as an LMS and
educational software. Knowledge of required state exams.

Fiscal Responsibility
(Budgeting responsibilities, approval privileges on purchase orders and check requests,
reporting and auditing functions).

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT
(Necessary traveling, unusual work hours, unusual environmental conditions, etc.)


Ability to drive at least 30 miles radius from Jefferson City. Visits to student teachers' schools
may fall outside of usual office hours.
