Position Summary

The Regional Educator - Agriculture will develop and deliver effective research-based educational programs in the area of agriculture that support youth, families, farmers, community partners, and Lincoln University Cooperative Extension staff.

This position will also secure grant and other extramural funds to support area agricultural programming, and initiate, cultivate, and maintain relationships with various community, state, and federal agencies and other stakeholders.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach effective research-based educational programs in the area of agriculture that support youth, families, farmers, community partners, and the Cooperative Extension staff.
  • Secure grant and extramural funding to support programming.
  • Maintain knowledge and skills in agriculture related research.
  • Initiate, cultivate, and maintain relationships with various community, state, and federal agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Manage the Extension program budget.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to implement urban/small-scale agricultural programs focused on urban livestock farming, gardening, community gardening, and/or entrepreneurship is required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with low-income, ethnically diverse, underserved audiences from marginalized communities in informal settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to create educational materials written for adults reading at the eighth-grade level is preferred.
  • Ability to understand, write, and speak Spanish is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in writing grant proposals and receiving grant funds is preferred.
  • Ability to use technology to deliver educational programs remotely is preferred.
  • Ability to promote and enhance programming on social media is preferred.

Education and Experience

  • Master of Science degree in the field of Agriculture or a closely related field is required.
  • Minimum of two years of direct experience working in the area of urban or small-scale agriculture is required.
  • Experience working in the areas of animal science and plant science, including specialty crops and horticulture in urban areas is preferred.
