Position Summary

The Compliance Officer develops, implements, and manages Lincoln University's programs, policies, and procedures to ensure all safety and security compliance requirements are met. The Compliance Officer compiles and tracks the necessary data from internal and external sources to complete and maintain the documentation for the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Identifies potential sources of safety and health vulnerability and risk hazards via inspections and implements corrective measures to reduce or eliminate such hazards.
  • Develops programs for the safe handling, sampling, storage, transport, and disposal of chemical, radioactive, hazardous material, and asbestos or mercury containing items.
  • Develops up to date safety and compliance policies and maintains accurate internal compliance records.
  • Evaluates and negotiates hazardous waste disposal contracts and oversees the closeout of facilities, storage sites, and field experiments involving hazardous waste materials.
  • Facilitates, audits, and updates the University's Clery Compliance program ensuring the appropriate policies, procedures, programs, systems, and activities are developed and effectively implemented.
  • Provides ongoing training to university team members to make certain all safety and security compliance requirements are met.
  • Develops, manages, and audits crime statistics and disclosure and works with the University Police to ensure the timely and accurately reporting of crimes.
  • Creates and maintains correct compliance records and distributes the Annual Security Report to the necessary University students and employees.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for the Clery Act, VAWA, and any other laws or regulations pertaining to university safety and security.
  • Oversees the timely warning and emergency notification program and conducts yearly tests of the emergency response and evacuation procedures in collaboration with the Lincoln University Police and Cole County Emergency Management office as required by the Clery Act.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for local, state, and federal compliance requirements and communicates accurate health, and safety information campus wide.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of the Title IX, VAWA, Clery Act, and any other applicable laws and regulations pertaining to safety and security for the University.
  • Ability to cultivate and nature collaborative partnerships with team members, students, and community agencies to remain in compliance with all safety and security programs.
  • Ability to engage in effective and respectful collaboration and management while completing multiple, diverse, and complex duties.
  • Ability to analyze environmental issues and formulate workable solutions for timely implementation.
  • Excellent judgment and leadership skills to work collaboratively with plant managers, safety directors, team members, and the public.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze technical reports clearly and concisely.
  • Working knowledge of lab and research activities and the ability to operate detection and measurement devices.
  • Strong presentation skills with an emphasis on educational learning and training pertaining to safety and security protocols.
  • Proficient with Microsoft office products and campus management software.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Environment Health & Safety, Chemistry, Compliance, or other closely related field.
  • 2 years prior experience as a Compliance Officer preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Light sedentary office work with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to navigate to an around all areas of the university campus and other educational campuses to complete safety and security assessments.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
