Position Description

Lincoln University of Missouri, a land-grant HBCU founded in 1866 and located in the state capital, invites applications for a full-time, 9-month faculty position in African American History. The African Diaspora, and/or African History. The subfield is open, but a secondary field in Gender or Women's History is desirable. The successful candidate will be an engaging, student-centered teacher who will teach courses ranging from U.S. and/or World History surveys to a variety of upper-division and graduate offerings in their area of specialization. Other responsibilities include scholarship, advising, and committee work.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Teaching load is 4/4, each semester, including US and/or World History surveys and upper-division and graduate offerings in their area of specialization.
  • Contribute to African Studies Program
  • Advising
  • Scholarship
  • Departmental, College, and University Service.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience in middle or high school history methods.
  • Experience with adolescent learning theory.
  • Skilled in working with underserved populations.
  • Familiar with, or willingness to become an expert in the Missouri accreditation requirements and standards.

Education and Experience

  • Ph.D. is required - advanced ABD candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Special consideration will be given to applicants with documented experience working with underserved populations and to applicants whose teaching and/or scholarship aligns with Lincoln University's commitment toto fostering equity and inclusion.

Physical Requirements

  • Light sedentary office work
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
