Assistant Professor in Animal Science

Position Summary:

Lincoln University of Missouri, Jefferson City is seeking a highly motivated, creative individuals to apply for an Assistant Professor position in Animal Science with an emphasis of small ruminant nutrition, production, grazing, and pasture management. The incumbent will work to assist Missouri farmers to increase their sustainability and profitability by optimizing animal growth, health, and productivity. This is a 12-month, non-tenure track, full benefit-eligible, 100% research faculty position.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and develop a high impact, nationally recognized research program to address the critical issues of the livestock industry.
  • Conduct innovative field or laboratory research and outreach activities focusing on animal production, nutrition and grazing experimentation, and statistical analysis.
  • Write grant proposals for extramural, competitive funding to support small ruminant research and extension programs.
  • Publish scientific research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Participate in university, professional service and outreach education activity.
  • Teach animal-related courses as needed.
  • Any other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational, writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Research and work experience in animal production, forage or grazing nutrition, feed ration formulations, statistical, informatics, and data analytical techniques.
  • Research grant writing and applications.
  • Scientific publication in relevant fields.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in animal science, veterinary and bioscience, or a closely related field.
  • Postdoctoral experience in animal production, nutrition, grazing, forage & feed science.

Physical Requirements:

  • Field work in all weather conditions including, but not limited to extremes.
  • Work tasks such as lifting or carry objects (20 lbs.)
  • Small livestock restraining and handling.
  • Possible exposure to animal waste, allergens, and zoonotic agents.
